Wednesday 1st July – Mount Davis Youth Hostel

Today we embarked on an epic journey up Mount Davis Path to the Jockey Club Mount Davis Youth Hostel. We got a couple of buses to the bottom of Mount Davis Path, and then walked up the road in the searing heat. There is a shuttle bus from Kennedy Town to the youth hostel, but it’s only for guests.

When we got to the top, we couldn’t go into the youth hostel unfortunately, but there was a cool box of drinks for sale and an honesty box.
Above the youth hostel, there’s a short but incredibly steep slope to an open grassy area at the top of the mountain. Just beyond the grassy bit there are the remains of the Mount Davis Battery. It’s super spooky. There was a weird BBQ area there, as well as a few people filming a guy dressed all in white yelling loudly.
After wandering around there for a bit, we took a path back down the mountain, which was a bit unofficial. It has obviously suffered recently from some typhoon damage, but someone (possibly from the Friends of Mount Davis) has been maintaining it in a slightly McGyver-y way!
